Digital Media

Mandalas

At the beginning of second semester, the tone of digital media shifted from a focus on music production to learning more about Adobe Illustrator. The project we embarked on to do this was creating mandalas in Illustrator. The act of making a mandala is normally regarded as a stress-relieving process and in ways making mandalas on Illustrator was too. We created four different mandala templates with 8, 10, 12, and 16 slices, respectively. On one template I drew a mandala in black and white that I later printed on a black and gold material.

On another template I make a colorful mandala that would not be printed, but instead would stay online.

After this I made a screen recording of myself adding on all the layers of the mandala and then sped up this video to make a relaxing reflection of the process.

Once all of this was completed I made a formal reflection video talking about the project itself and my favorite parts of it.

EDM Music

At the end of first semester, to demonstrate our newfound knowledge of ProTools and Reason, we created 8 bars of EDM music. This was a fun way to show how we now knew how to create music, completely digitally. To make the music I used an arpeggiator and a variety of drum, guitar, and strings plug-ins. Another aspect to this was putting everyones 8 bars together once they were all done to create one long EDM banger. This was a nice culmination and demonstration of our new skills in Reason.
