Welcome to my Music Video website! This unit had WebAudio and Film students collaborating on a music video. The WebAudio students were primarily in charge of the music and their websites, while Film students were primarily in charge of the video portion. In Design, both WebAudio and Film students designed a concert poster and T-shirt. There was no English portion to this project, although all members of the groups collaborated on the lyrics of the songs.

This is Group #11, Soup Rags. Our members were Nick Lamm, Alex Appel, Sasha Sobel, Kevin Van Dyke, and Elizabeth Leung.

Music Video

Each group member came up with their own lyrics before the whole group converged to decide what lyrics to use. We ended up usings Nick's lyrics with some edits (on right).

Our group started with virtual instruments in Reason to create a music track. We ended up mostly abandoning the original track and recording a new song instead. We started with the vocals, then improvised a guitar and piano part around it. We also mixed in harmonies.

Art

There were two Design projects during this unit: a concert poster and T-shirt art. We worked on the concert poster first, then the T-shirt.

For the concert poster, I wanted to capture the warm tone of the lyrics. I decided on the fire early on, which I created from a frame in After Effects. I dragged the image into Illustrator to create the rest of the image around it. I created a brick pattern for the chimney/fireplace. I made the smoke out of circles of varying tints/shades and sizes and placed a filter over it to make it look more stylized. Our band name was Soup Rags, so I decided to go with an alphabet soup type of font which I found on DaFont.

The T-shirt had to feel united with the poster, but it couldn't be an exact copy. We were required to incorporate a photo in it, so I decided to use my photo as the primary focus of the T-shirt. I wanted to keep the warm tone, and I took a picture of a steaming latte. I decided to try to replicate latte art in Illustrator for the band name.
