The following are pieces of media that I have created unrelated to Freestyle Academy. I have always had a passion for creating, and this portfolio exemplifies some of my strengths when it comes to personal expression.

A pencil and paper drawing of a tree. The background is the sun high in the sky with clouds scattered in the sky.In my design class, we were drawing backgrounds for characters that we were making for an assignment. That made me want to practice drawing backgrounds on my own in order to not only make something that would get me a good grade in the class, but also so that I could gather more understanding of how back grounds changed the feeling of a piece. Having backgrounds is important for any piece of work, and I have lacked that in a lot of my pieces. For this piece, I wanted to practice cross-hatching and making a nice back ground. I feel like I was able to accomplish a kind feeling through the outdoorsy look with the tree and the scattered clouds.

A woman drawn in ink. She has her hands in her hair and is wearing a jacket and leggings.

I have always had an interest in fashion, but I have not tried to design clothes very much. The few ventures I have taken into fashion have been really educational and inspiring for me, so I wanted to draw some clothes myself. I wanted to practice drawing the human body, as well as try creating some clothes. I drew this jacket in a letterman style with two goddesses on the front, a zipper separating them. Behind the goddesses, I drew the rising sun, igniting hope and love in the future.

An acrylic painting of a man's bust, he has dark brown hair with a blonde streak in his hair. He has no facial features other than a short beard, mustache, and eyebrows.

Arin Hanson is a man that runs a YouTube channel that I listen to a lot when I draw. He has inspired me a lot in my journey as an artist, so I wanted to make something to show my appreciation. I used paint, because it is the most challenging for me to use, and I wanted to put a lot of work into this art for a person that has encouraged me and thousands of others to pursue their dreams of being artists. I left out his facial features, because he has allowed himself to be completely vulnerable to his fans and therefore does not wear the social “mask” that many other entertainers do. I also made the photo I took of my painting warmer using a filter to show that I hold a special place in my heart for him due to his enormous impact on my life.

We see the profile of an androgynous person who is sitting on some undrawn object, making it look like they are floating. they are hunched in on themself and looking up at the top right-hand corner of the canvas. A large circle surrounds them with lines in the circle that conform more to the person's silhouette as it get's closer to them.

I made this piece while thinking about how lost I felt when I had a falling out with a couple of friends who I had once considered very close. I was at a loss as to who my true friends were and was worried about what this experience said about me as a person. Later, after I had become closer with some people that I did not know very well before, I came back and drew the lines that morphed from the girl’s form into a solid circle around her. The circle shows how I had become strong through the process of losing those “friends” that I was not as close to as I had originally thought. I made new friends, and although I was lost for a while, I was able to power through the pain and become stronger because of it.

An alcoholic marker drawing of a woman. on the left, she is wearing light green and brown, she is wearing a white blindfold and is holding her injured left arm with her right hand. On the right, she wears darker colors and no blindfold, instead, she has a long scar that crosses over both of her eyes. She is carrying an axe in her right hand and is missing most of her left arm. She is standing defensively and is looking directly at the viewer.

Character design and telling stories has always been really fun and interesting to me, so I often tried to make characters of my own. This character was wounded when she was passive, her warm color scheme and white blindfold showing her innocence and kindness. However, she was forced to adapt to the world around her and became more rugged. The scar on her face as well as the darker, more industrial, color scheme shows her transformation to someone more capable of defending herself, her battle-like stance showing she is ready for whatever will come her way next.

An ink drawing on traditional paper. A girl is being lifted by a tentacle that is gently carrying her while a destroyed Earth makes up the bottom third of the background.

This piece was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s stories of immense power and destruction. The way he wrote created extremely visually inspiring stories. He was able to create pictures in the reader’s mind that could range from extremely vivid to incomprehensible. The Earth I drew far away from the girl and the creature she is interacting with has taken chunks out of it, which reflect the hopelessness of humanity in the presence of these ungodly creatures that were described by Lovecraft. the girl is smiling, her curiosity piqued as she represents the readers of Lovecraft’s works. The creature interacts with the girl gently, even touching her lips to show fondness as Lovecraft shows his care for his readers bu creating his many stories for the world to read.

A pencil and paper drawing of actor and musician Daveed Diggs.

David Diggs has been a great inspiration to me. As a musician from the Bay Area, he has been able to dabble in many different genres of music, from hip hop to rap to musical theater. He worked extremely hard to get where he is today and his ability to be so flexible in the music industry and follow his dreams no matter where they take him is amazing to me. He is in simple black, white, and gray, which showcases his ability to stand out in any environment he places himself in. He is in a suit, but he still looks rugged, his suit is a bit loose, his posture is relaxed, his hair going in whatever direction it pleases. He is staring at the viewer, almost challenging them to try to reach his level of expertise. I wrote his name in a graphic font around him to symbolize his “flow”, which can bend to fit in any genre while still staying unique.
