Welcome to my Experimental Website,
The goal of this unit was to express ourselves through songs, poems, artworks, and website designs. In the tabs on the left I will display my animated poem, my experimental music, poetry, and art. I used the applications Flash, Pro Tools, Photoshop, and Illustrator to create my animated poem, record my song/poetry, and create my experimental artwork.

During the experimental unit in our english class we were asked to write 125 lines of poetry including lyrics to one of our personalized songs. For our web audio class the assignment was to select one of our favorite poems and animate it using Illustrator and Flash. We also used the application Pro Tools to record ourselves reading our poetry as the animation plays. You can view my animation by clicking on the image below!

This assignment was very open ended. The only instructions we received were to stay on topic with our lyrics. Having all these instruments to experiment with left me with infinite possibilities in very little time. It was hard to write my own song let alone record it in the studio. However with the help of my friend Sam Wong, we covered the song "Welcome to Paradise" by Green Day. It was a fun experience and we learned a lot of new handy tools in the studio. I will be sure to update this song next year with some lyrics and a click track.

For the english portion of the experimental unit, we had to write 125 lines of poetry and lyrics revolving around the same topic we had chosen in design and web/audio. Finding inspiration to write these poem was very frustrating, but Mr. Greco helped me narrow down my topics which helped greatly. I selected my favorite poems to be displayed on the images below.

For the experimental art assignment in design we were first asked to sit in a circle to debate about what topic we would select. We had to describe a feeling or emotion we felt when we did a particular action. I chose to do mine about the feeling or unity and relief I get when I release my creative energy on my instruments on a daily basis.

Artist Statement:

In this piece I wanted to portray how my day is very two-sided. It can either go very well or very wrong. A great factor that affects this change in my mood is the music I play. Throughout the day a sort of energy builds up inside me and if I don’t have some sort of outlet I become very frustrated. If I don’t play an instrument it tends to put me in a sort of melancholic mood, and it is harder for me to focus on anything. On the other hand If I release all this creative energy it causes me to be a lot happier, and more relaxed.

To make this piece I took a long drive to Westwind Barn in Los Altos Hills to take a picture of this tree. I then added roots using Adobe Photoshop, and used a specific texture to make them look more natural. I selected half the image and made it black and white. For the other half I added Hue and Saturation to turn the grass pink and the tree in a lighter shade of green. For the sun at the top of the image I used the Photoshop brush tool to color in the different colors in the design.
