WHO AM I?
To myself, I am an amalgamation of all my past experiences and all my future aspirations. I am my favorite pieces of media (Lana del Rey’s Ride Monologue Video, The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and Bones and All), my most memorable experiences (the death of my beloved cat Nox, travelling alone to Spain, and my short-lived ballerina career), and my deepest relationships (my best friends M, B, and R, my sisters E and E, my lovely parents, and my pets). I am on a path to places I dream of (college, Germany, and personal success), fueled by my past and present environments (my three middle schools, my high school, my four old houses and my one present day home).
To most others, however, I am a junior in high school, defined by name, Harlow, and my classes and extracurriculars. A major in film at Freestyle Academy, a babysitter, a sister.
However you may know me, I hope the work I’ve chosen to share on this website resonates with you on some level.
WHAT ARE MY CORE VALUES?
I value authenticity, empathy, kindness, humor, self-respect, and connection. I believe that the most beautiful thing you can do with your life is to lead a life centered around your core values, therefore I heavily emphasize authenticity in all situations. Staying true to yourself will never betray you. For me, I aspire to be the kindest version of myself and to use my strengths, like creativity, determination, and humor, to positively impact the world around me. I know that this notion has been preached since the start of time, that you should treat others how you want to be treated, that you should walk through life considering what it would be like to walk in the shoes of others, and despite the repetitive nature of this message, I think it is at the core of living a meaningful life and of making change in the short time we are alive. This website, dedicated to my art, and my art itself, are commodities in the big picture of the world. I, by some stroke of fate, was born into a community where I have the resources to bring my ideas to life, to make creative projects. I think with kindness, with empathy, we can change the world so that everyone, despite where they live or where they come from, can spend their short time on earth doing what they love, just like I am able to.
WHAT AM I PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I’m passionate about living. Not just going through the day to day motions of being a human, but really truly experiencing. Experiencing it all, taking risks, not leaving anything behind, never having to say “maybe in another life, I would achieve this.” No. I am passionate about doing it all. Traveling, working, meeting new people, creating, going after what I want. That’s what I focus my energy towards every day.
WHY DID I CHOOSE TO BECOME A FREESTYLE STUDENT?
Freestyle Academy was an important step in my creative journey because it gave me a defined time every day to focus on my creative projects, which otherwise would be confined to my mind and never be brought to life, considering the busyness of my life outside of Freestyle. For that, I decided to join, and have spent every day since thanking myself for taking the first step.
