Welcome to the Home page! On these webpages, you'll find several different forms of my Documentary project, ranging from an e-book, an audio-slideshow, to a plain text version. The purpose of this project was to go out into the community, find an "untold story", and document it. In order to document it we performed several tasks: online research, interviewing people connected to our topic, and photographing our location.

The project first started in English, where we learned about different forms of documentation and how to perform successful interviews. We watched two movies to understand concepts such as author bias and how to interest readers, these two films were "My Kid Can Paint That" and "The Parking Lot Movie". After finding my topic and beginning research on the internet about it, I headed out to the Dittmer's store. Utilising my DSLR camera and my audio recording kit, I set up three individual interviews and found out the true facts about these small businesses. We transcribed our interviews and began writing our paper out back in English! After finishing the paper, we inserted the text and photos into the book to make it look snazzy! With all my work done, I headed into WebAudio and learned about a new program: Reason. Reason is an audio based program that allows you to record your own music or simply create your own using the digital instruments!

For my paper, I wanted to look into the difficulty of sustaining a small business, since Dittmer's serves a perfect example of such. I chose this topic as when people think of capitalism, many think of large corporations that we just recognize as large and successful, we don't really know much about how they started up and got to the position of which they are at now. In America, small businesses are one of the key ideas that help to represent "living the dream" and achieving success through one's hard work. With all this in mind, I felt checking out the untold story of small businesses would be really fascinating!

Throughout this project I've learned a lot! Design has helped me learn about the program InDesign, a program used by professionals! Also, English has solidified my writing for pieces such as research papers. What stood out the most for me was what I learned in WebAudio. Learning more about audio recording and especially Reason was a great experience. The piece of music you see on this page is one that I created in Reason!
