Personal Museum Curation

An assignment from our field trip to the SF MOMA was to curate a collection of three pieces that represented us as a person and two which did not. Here are my pieces:

Ex. 1-Laying a Standard: Translation #1 | Jess

This piece represents my core values because it is a very simple scene, yet it has a lot of detail and thought put into the shapes, composition, and colors used. I relate to the piece because I try to find value in ordinary life and in calm settings like the one which is depicted.

TEMPTATION OF SAINT WALLACE | Jean Conner

I was initially attracted to this piece because of the interesting mix of colors and shapes that were used. The piece, although a mix of many different ideas, is cohesive and unites the individual parts to create a better whole. This represents my values because I believe that it is important to have complexities to one’s identity.

Sunset Streets | Wayne Thiebaud

This piece depicts a road in San Francisco during sunset, with natural light illuminating the street with the silhouettes of the surrounding buildings. The first thing I noticed was how exaggerated the vertical lines were to show the steep hill. This piece represents my values because of how it takes a scene from everyday life and catches it in a beautiful moment in time.
