Podcast

Introduction

In this podcast we decided to take a deeper look at how the gender of a director can affect the content of a movie. For this episode, we specifically looked at the costumes of female super heroes Black Widow, Harley Quinn, and Scarlet Witch. Each one of these characters have movies that are directed by both males and females so they were the perfect choices for us to compare and contrast.

This project was super fun to create and was very unique compared to other freestyle projects we’ve done. Podcasting is a very fun form of media and it provides a blend between creative and academic mediums that can’t be found anywhere else. There are no limits when creating a podcast, you could make it funny, educational, a story, the possibilities are endless. Podcasts can often feel more personal than other mediums as well since it is more similar to having a conversation with the person in real life. On top of all of this, making a podcast is very easy and widely accessible for anyone. All you need is a simple audio recorder or even your phone and there are a multitude of platforms to share it on. Knowing this information, our group wanted to take full advantage of the podcast project and share an idea that we were passionate about and interested in sharing with others which led us to the podcast you see here today.

Bios

Alex Chen

Hi my name is Alex Chen, I am currently a senior at Mountain View high school. I am interested in becoming a filmmaker and my future plans are to work with my brothers to create our own content and hopefully get our own netflix series. Since our topic was about the comparison of female and male gazes in the movie industry, I found it appropriate to talk on this podcast and share my own ideas. Outside of my academic life, I enjoy listening to music and playing basketball.

Jamie Maclean

Hi, I’m Jamie Maclean and I am 18 years old and a senior at Los Altos high school. In my free time, I love to create and listen to music, create films, and play badminton. After high school, I plan to go to university but I’m still exploring different areas that I might want to study in. I had a lot of fun recording this podcast and it really gave me a new perspective on how films are created.

Hannah Kitamura

Hi, my name is Hannah Kitamura and I am a senior at Los Altos High School. I have been participating in performing and visual arts since I was a kid, which is how I fell in love with the entertainment industry. Having both experienced the technical and acting aspect of entertainment, I hope to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, whether it’s in film and television, or in theatre.

Darya Korepanova

Hello! My name is Darya Korepanova and I am a senior attending Los Altos High School. I have had an interest in art since a very young age, and have been determined to pursue a creative career ever since first grade. Although I focus more on visual design rather than film, I wanted to explore the topic of how costume design effects an audience’s perception of a movie in order to learn more about how these topics can apply to my future work (such as advertisements and product design, for example). Apart from being knee deep in art, I also enjoy hiking and roller skating.

Reflections

After this project, I have found a new love for podcasts. Now that I understand a lot of the aspects that going into create every podcast, it has given me a new appreciation for them. I love that no matter what mood iI’m in, I can always find a podcast that I want to listen to. Whether I want to laugh or learn something new, there is a variety of podcasts that I have found through this project that I regularly listen to. From this experience I learned a lot about how to produce audio and how to write a good script for a podcast that keeps the audience interested which are both skills that will be very useful for the rest of my life. Overall, I hd a great time creating this podcast and I definitely want to create more podcasts in the future.
