Introduction

“How can I use unconventional forms to express myself?”
The answer is simple and sweet. Conceptual. Or is it? Conceptual is the mental concept to obtain the ability to express one’s thoughts and feelings through the distinct lens of an individual; which is a concept. In this case, that individual is me. My attempt to show and relate to indescribable feelings that “just make sense” in my own head. In order to relate it to others, it’s best if one can understand diversified method in order to successful present their ideas. Through freestyle, we learn how to use professional equipment such as cameras and audio recorders to create our beginnings, and use adobe applications, google apps, avid pro tools, and word press to enhance or flourish our objective.

Being a Freestyle student has opened a new and astonishing perspective of the media world we reside in today. Firstly, I value the teachers never-ending open mindedness that allow you to grow from being a viewer to a creator. Secondly, I value the different topics that we learn in English class and that it can be applicable to projects that we are working on in our elective classes. Lastly, I value the amount of knowledge we began to come across in Digital Media for an overall basic understanding of how things work in the world of media.

Haiku

For this project, we were given a prompt in our English class to write a haiku about. A haiku consists of 5-7-5 syllable lines and we needed a kigo line (an indication of a season) for the beginning line. My conceptual statement for my haiku is, “I am expressing the feeling of regret through exercise.” For my kigo line, I wanted to emphasize on a cold or harsh weather. Typically an individual would associate these times that are difficult and mundane. To express regret through exercise, I wanted to portray a person metaphorically drowning in their ‘deep sea’ of regrets. Hence, it is a shame that they will forever continuously drown as they look up and wish to see the land of hope once more.

The process of editing using Adobe Premier Pro

I valued the importance of key-framing with every text, image, or audio that needs to be taken into account when editing a video. In addition, the timing of the video is important to properly get the viewer attached to the video. While timing of a video is heavily taken into consideration, the audio is moreover important as it’s needed for a story to be conveyed and interpreted in a different manner.

“Why Art?” Essay

“Why Art Matters Essay”

In English class, we were assigned to answer the multitude of questions such as, “How much of importance does art hold for an individual? Does Art correctly display the meaning of what it represents? What can we infer and understand from art about its’ historical representation or artistic choice? Why does art matter?” All of these questions ended up simply and ambiguously, “Why Art?” In our class, we read a play called, “Red”, and grasped a sense of meaning for Art through an experienced individual. In addition, we discussed and analyzed different forms of art and interpreted its’ meanings; in which everyone typically had a different answer. Specifically, I researched an artist who I felt had a similar viewpoint as me. My own answer as to why art mattered was to showcase an overall understanding of a cultural or societal situation, difference, or interpretation. Such depiction matters as it allows someone to acquire knowledge upon something they have never experienced or understood for themselves. Juan Luna, a painter in the late 1800s whom experienced cultural clashes, turned his art into his visual opinion about political situations.

Why Art Presentation

The goal of my presentation was to restate my thesis and convey my essay within into a 5 minute presentation. I wanted to explain the importance of how art impacts a cultural or social ideal(s) in a society.

I personally valued the creative ideals as to why an individual would care to think about art and its’ existence as a whole. Art is definitely shown on a daily basis to convey a multitude of meanings and can take on in different styles.

Experimental Film

Now that I’ve begin to have a basic understanding about how film is made, I’ve began to have an appreciation for those who work hard in order to present their form of artwork onto audiences. Plus, I value the amount of production that goes on behind the scenes and how filmmakers create an entirely different experience for viewers by inventing different ways to film a scene.

This photo is how I would represent my experimental production. The eye indulges in a vast majority of life and creates experiences that define who we are. Stare at anything too closely and you’ll end up examine it’s tiniest details. Your eyes are not perfect or perceptive as a magnifying glass, but they allow you to view timeless memories and create imaginations based on what you’ve already seen.

I used my concept statement from English class and tried to advocate the meaning except without showing the viewer exactly what it meant. My own interpretation to my concept statement, “I am feeling regret through exercise), was to show the exercise of vision because exercising just means you are repeatedly doing an action; and you look at things all the time. To portray regret, I wanted to emphasize that if you look at things for too long, you might end up analyzing it and compare it to a negative feeling or thought.

On the bottom left, you are seeing the clips that I had in mind but did not end up using. On the top right, there is the preview of the final video. In the bottom section, that is the editing timeline with 2 video tracks and 2 audio tracks. I used the first video track to display the photos, then the 2nd video track to display text as needed for the introduction and ending. Also, I used the first audio track for sound effects and the 2nd audio track for the music that allowed me to keep the pictures and remove them on-tempo.
