In English class we read Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut to study humor techniques, and then used what we learned to make a humor project that we presented to the class. I was so excited about this project because I love comedy. I like a lot of different forms of comedy like stand up, The Onion, SNL, and sitcoms. These all heavily inspired the work I did for this project.

Proposal:

Our idea was a Freestyle version of SNL’s Weekend Update where we used the dame formulas for jokes but made them all Freestyle related. We did a lot of watching Weekend Update to understand what kinds of jokes they made and how we could use those formulas and turn them into Freestyle related jokes.

To make the video look similar to weekend update we used a desk, two office chairs, and a green screen. We did close ups for each of us with space on the sides to edit in graphics, and then one medium shot to cut to between close ups for variety.

In the edit we took the current Weekend Update intro and put “Freestyle” before the words “Weekend Update” and put pictures of our faces over the current hosts’ faces. We put the old weekend update map background on the green screen to copy SNL more closely.
