The third quarter project is based on the relationship of facts to truth. The research is based on a topic of our choice and aims to expand on an essential question. It's a combination of research and interviews and also incorporated into a book or article. My essential question surrounds immigration. How do the different faces of immigration correlate into the American people? Why does a second generation immigrant become a Minute Man? I chose this topic because the topic is real to me and my family, and real to where I live. Being second-generation and of parents who both immigrated in their childhood or adolescence, I have a connection to the topic whether I want to or not. The acceptance of immigration and its characteristics have changed in the past decades. I wanted to understand the different profiles immigrants are filed into and why.

The audio slideshow is a combination of very complimentary mediums. For this assignment we combined interviews, narration and music to create the audio aspect of it and pictures with captions that corresponded. It's another way of doing what the research paper does in only text, describe a topic and elaborate an essential question.

The Photo Book was by far my favorite project in this unit. I love the mixture of visual communication through all of its characteristics. The typography, layout, color choices, and photographs chosen are all purposeful and influential. It was made using Indesign and incorporated images and text edited in Photoshop and Illustrator. The thing to look for in my book is the purpose of detail and juxtapositions in both text and images. Instead of only having to edit and choose the right pictures, the photo book called for a lot of pre-thought in regards to placement and style. Just because of my personality, choosing how to lay out and format every aspect was the most conflicting part. It didn't seem like the text was worth anything if it wasn't in the write size and place. The hardest thing was trying to design the book to work for the content and add as much as it could.

The music you hear in the background is a mix from Wax Tailor's "Que Sera." Stylisticly he makes songs out of infamous and interesting movie clips. It represents a culture and the people who my documentary is involved with.

This unit took on a different approach to the design and construction of our projects. Because it was documentary, there was no content altering aspects in the photos chosen, and it was more about uncovering and creating. The book was also a different type of project from the previous units. It incorporated Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign along with part, if not all, of our research paper. Also, we created audio slide shows and did much more with audio editing and mixing.
