Introduction

The project challenges Freestyle students to communicate their thoughts through unique creative projects using poetry, music, animations, experimental videos, and web creation. It also teaches creative perseverance. Learning about professional tools and software, including DSLR cameras,  audio recorders, Adobe Photoshop, , Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, and more. These skills will be the building blocks to our next years at Freestyle Academy.

I value the effort that my three teachers at Freestyle give. The pages of thorough instruction that Mr Flo creates for us to understand takes time and I value the help given. I appreciate Mr Greco acknowledging his students’ mental health and therefore putting in daily preclass meditations to give us a space of peace. Both of these classes have not only taught me skills on the computer with Adobe applications but also taught me life skills of perseverance and grit.

“Why Art” Essay

This project started with the play “Red” by John Logan, here we were introduced to themes of art such as emotions based on color, lighting, and contrast. After discussing the play we went on to research our own artists and see their messages. The main question was to answer, “Why does art matter?”

There is an audio version of my Why Art Matters essay down below!

Overall this project has helped me appreciate arts value in our lives. Art comes in all forms such as music which has impacted my life in so many ways. I listen to music every single day for multiple hours. I’m listening to music while writing. Music specifically has connected me to many people as I used to be in the performing arts and it led me to meet many nice people.

Photoshop Blend Mode Editing

This project was learning about the application Photoshop in a deeper way. Photoshop has its many tools and learning to blend two different photos together in a couple of different ways is super cool. We were able to learn how to brighten and darken photos, make items pop, and add a photo on top of another.

Film

Film has been a rollercoaster with moments of ups and downs. Learning the basics of different film languages such as Griffiths’s pattern 180 rule, and Hitchcock and Baby. Those terms might sound like gibrish but Mr Taylor makes everything understood. In this class, we collaborate, learn to pitch, and have fun movie days.

The process after pitching we must write out our synopsis. In this, you have to write shot ideas and the sequence of shots. This process confirms you understand the story and Mr Taylor will too.

Suspicion Through Taking a Risk

This was shot in my dad’s abandoned work office. I used a big red light to add suspense. The moon-shaped head you see was first added as a joke as my actor(my dad) was messing around and I decided to film it. During my round of dailies in class my feedback was to add more and that became the base of my film. The suspicion is added as we don’t know what is behind the door and the light. Taking a risk is trying to go through the door and the mysterious moon head adds suspense as well.

Behind the Scenes

Here is my Premiere Pro File which shows the editing done to this film. This process was long and challenges arose as it was our first time editing alone.
