The Narrative Unit was based around the graphic novel that we created in English class. The graphic novel is very focused on the pictures and has no dialogue. The creating of the graphic novel was a bit challenging because we had to develop and convey a story with only pictures. In Design class, we had two assignments; the character portrait and an illustration. For the character portrait, we were told to choose a model and use props, backgrounds, and lighting to show the different characteristics and situations that applied to our own story. For the illustration, we took out a scene from our graphic novel and drew it up in Adobe Illustrator using a bunch of different elements like linear perspective and sound effect bubbles. Finally, in WebAudio, we turned our graphic novel into an animatic by cutting out each of the scenes and putting them together with simple transitions in Toon Boom. Then we developed the animatic into an animation by creating the scenes in Illustrator and then animating the characters and actions in Toon Boom.
