Conceptual

For the Conceptual Project, Juniors develop their abstract thinking and communication skills to answer the question, “How can I use unconventional forms to express myself?”

This project uses creative risk-taking through different mediums of art to teach and encourage students to express their opinions through a more personal aesthetic. Students practice technical communication skills by learning a variety of modern professional equipment and applications. Some that I used include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

It was one of my first projects at Freestyle, and was a great introduction to some of their values, which seem to include encouraging creativity and individuality, and improving skills and knowledge using the programs and equipment they provided us with.

Poetry (English)

Small feet run about,

Laughing and chatting,

Lovely children of mine

Playing in the summer sun.

So hot, I can’t beat away the haze

The rays are giving way

Making me take a drink from a cold glass.

I watch closely from my spot,

Like a mother hen

guarding her precious eggs.

One missed glance,

And I miss

the world

ending.

Looking left to right,

To front and back,

Quickly, frantically,

The eggs were gone.

Small feet had run off,

Steps

       no longer

                      audible.

Where had they gone?

Where   had   they   gone?

W h e r e    h a d    t h e y    g o n e ?

The prompt for this was “Nervousness through watching children play.”

So, this poem was written to show the anxiety and worry a parent might feel about their child’s safety and well-being. The scene described in particular was about a mother who had let her children go out to play. It starts off with everyone enjoying the summer sun, and the freedom of being outside. But the, she quickly loses track of their whereabouts. Feeling the anxiety creep in upon not knowing where they were, the thought repeats in her head,

“Where had they gone?”

She feels helpless.

Photography (Design)

Conceptual, related to the poem from English. Symbolizes the prompt with symbolism. For example, the combination of a children’s toy and “missing person” posters.

Transport.

Experimental Film (Film)

ARVE Error: Mode: lazyload not available (ARVE Pro not active?), switching to normal mode

This piece also relates to the poem and conceptual photo. Using a combination of symbolism and story-telling, I try conveying the prompt with another medium.
