Introduction

Always on the forefront of modern neuroscience, one man is paving the path for new discoveries. William (Bill) Newsome is the Director of the Stanford Neuroscience Institute. When it comes to getting the new program launched, Bill Newsome takes on whatever challenge comes his way, and does “anything that needs to be done.” As the director of the institute, Dr. Newsome is working to get people from different disciplines to think together about the mysteries of the brain and to understand deeply how the brain works. Traveling across the US, to England, to France, to Switzerland, to China and South Korea, Newsome is sharing his findings with people from all over the world and is bringing back the best ideas to answer the biggest mysteries about ourselves.

Welcome to my Profile website! I created this website to showcase a specific individual. I chose to do my profile on William Newsome: The Director of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute.

Magazine

Creating my magazine was an extreemly interesting experience. There were so many factors that needed to be molded together in order to form a completed piece. The first step I took to creating my magazine was deciding on my topic. This took a little longer that expected because my original idea fell through. A little lost and worried I chose to do my topic on my mother's boss, William Newsome:The Director of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute. I started doing a little reasearch, learning about some of the projects and experiments he had conducted over the years. After coming up with some questions I set up an interview with Dr. Newsome. After school I rode my bike over to the stanford campus. I was a little nervous for the first interview, but It went well. Having fishined the interview I started to create the article for the magazine. While I was writing the article in english class, I was also desighning the magazine's layout in Design class. Once I finally completed the article I combined the two pieces to create the final magazine. Learning how to create this magazine is probably one of the most interesting and useful things that I have learned here attending Freestyle Academy as I can apply these skills to so many different projects that I might do in the future.

President John Hennessy appointed William T. Newsome director of SNI, effective September 1, 2013. Newsome was recently named the Harman Family Provostial Professor, and has served as director of the Bio-X NeuroVentures program. In Spring of 2013, Newsome was enlisted to co-lead the National Institutes of Health working group for President Obama's BRAIN initiative, which is formulating a national plan for unraveling the mysteries of the brain. The goal of his research is to understand the neuronal processes that mediate visual perception and visually guided behavior.
