Hi There, I'm Maya!

Tagline

Who are you?

My name is Maya Lacy. I’m a Junior at Mountain View High school and Freestyle Academy, taking Animation as my elective class. My whole life I have been drawn to water and nature, making both of those things a core part of who I am now. I have grown to love swimming, backpacking, windsurfing, and taking any chance I have to create something cool. Between my siblings, I am the sister who is always exploring, trying new things, and learning something new.

What are your core values in life?

I strongly believe in the importance of attitude and optimism as a gateway to success and a generally happy life. I have made a promise to myself to avoid saying ‘I can’t’ no matter the circumstances, and have held this vow for over 2 months at this point – from the point I made it one of my long-term goals. Another one of my core values is that a single person doesn’t necessarily need that much to not only survive – but thrive. There is so much more in life than our materialistic wants and needs.

What are you currently passionate about in life?

I love swimming, windsurfing, and spending time in nature. Most of my time during the school year, however, is spent designing and programming the lighting for the MVHS and Drama Llama theater productions. I am passionate about any creative project, even if it’s a history project that I’ve turned into something art related, and I could work on something that I’m passionate about for hours on-end.

Why did you choose to become a Freestyle student?

I chose to become a Freestyle student because I really liked the way that freestyle approaches learning. I liked how the English and Digital media classes were connected and were working in accordance with each other. This along with the grading system, schedule, and projects, showed me how well-thought out this program really was, and it addressed many of my grievances with the regular system of learning at high schools. Additionally, I was drawn to the digital media class as it sounded like it would teach me skills that have previously blocked me from continuing some creative projects, and I look forward to that knowledge and the freedom I will have throughout my life. I liked the focus in the English class on areas and topics that interested me, and how deep of a dive that the English sounded like it took into every project. I was excited to take Animation specifically, as during the open house day, all of the past Junior projects look really exciting and interesting to me.
