Documentary

Introduction:

During the Documentary unit, freestyle students get to choose a topic, person, place, etc that they want to share more information or stories about. It is a fun way to research and learn more about the topic you choose and then make a fun media for your elective classes.

My Topic:

For my documentary project, I choose to do a profile on my sister Aava Salehi. She was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes when she was sixteen years old and has come a very long way since then. Aava learned how to manage type one diabetes in order to do everything she loves. I was inspired to do this topic because she is a role model for me. She shows me every day that even at the hardest times, we can get through anything is we put our minds to it.

During the creation of this project, I really valued learning how to properly set up in an interview in terms of schedules, setting up equipment, and knowing what question to ask and when to ask them. I also valued learning how to edit and interview in Premiere Pro because it’s very different from editing a Narrative or any other kinds of films. You have to create the story after the interview and use the good parts, you can’t really plan how you will edit it ahead of time and you don’t know what the subject will say.

Reflection: I think compared to the other units Documentary was a lot harder in terms of planing. You had to coordinate with the interviewees and see when they could schedule an interview. Also, you didn’t know what they where gonna say so based on what they say you have to create a Documentary.

Documentary Film Introduction Video:

Film:

Introduction: For Film, I decided to do a profile on my sister Aava Salehi. She was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes at 16 years old. Her profile was to show her journey and how far she has come since she was diagnosed.

Reflection: I difficult because I had to do everything at home and the internet was prolonged while editing. However, filming it was also hard because I had to find places to film where quiet and there are many people in my house. It was a good experience to learn how to adjust when the unexpected happens, and, overall, I thought my film was fun to do and an excellent experience.

Editing and Production Process

Mockumentary Film:

Introduction: Mockumentary Film was a way of introducing the skills we need to film a Documentary. We learned about how to set up an interview and what questions to ask. We also learned about what B-Roll is and when to add it to support the documentary. For my mockumentary, I worked with RyeV and RyanA. We created a mockumentary about a crazy band that sucks at music.
