Mannequin

Mannequin- a styled and three-dimensional representation of the human form used in window displays, as of clothing; dummy.

A representation of the human form, the perfect human form. While many mannequins are male, I chose to focus on the female form.

There is an immense pressure on women to be perfect, I live in a world where my body, my hair, my makeup, my clothing is never good enough. If I don't wear makeup, I'm lazy. If I don't dress right, people look at me weird. The list goes on and on.

Women are perfect the way they are. It's cliche, I know, but beauty, it lies in the glint of the eye and the spark in the mind.

Will I really be less imaginative if I stop putting on mascara every morning?

Will I become dull if I stop watching my weight?

I ask you this, will women change if they let themselves come out? Let the Mannequin drop?

For this unit, I created 125+ lines of poetry, based on my idea, which I explained above. I explored each piece of poetry differently.

No Name, a woman, so driven to beauty that her life takes a spiraling end.

Genetics, the beauty business, cutting down all competition.

Reflection, the struggle of a woman trying to get her voice back.

I recorded my poetry and set it to music to carry a greater impact. I loved this part. A poem that was only spoken can become hauntingly true. I know they send shivers down my spine.

I also created this webpage. I wanted to show the darkness of this world. The banner should show beauty, but the black and white facet that it has.

I created an abstract painting representing the struggle of women to break free, or the struggle they face to stay within the black and white lines.
