Introduction

My Project was about movie soundtracks. I wanted to make high quality music. I decided on soundtracks because I didn't want to sing nor, make a pop song. I was also inspired by the musicians John Powell, and Enya. They both make intense music, or mysterious music. Although, Enya is a singer she made the whole soundtrack for one of the Lord of the Rings movie. This project was mostly about the process of creating a project. We were to concentrate more on learning something new, than worrying about finishing it. For our presentation we had to make a piktochart. The information could be about anythig that involed your project. I choose to research on the marketing world for soundtracks. This project was really exciting, it allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and to try something new.

My first year of Freestyle was unforgettable. In just a year, I have created a personal website, a narrative website, a conceptual website, a documentary website, and lastly an explorations website. I have learned how to take photos and use photoshop. I have experimented with Illustration and Flash. I have played with After Effects to create my own commercial. I have learned more in a year than I have ever learned before. Freestyle has allowed me to learn and think with creativity. Each project shows you a new aspect in the world of art and technology. I came into Freestyle barely knowing how to do a Powerpoint on Google, and now I know how to design my own website, take photos with different lens and lights, express myself through poems and stories, and how to organize and invent my own designs and graphics in Design. Freestyle is hard work, but it is worth it. I appreciate all the skills I have learned throughout this year. I cannot wait for my second year at Freestyle. Freestyle has taught me to step out of my comfort zone, and most importantly it has given me life long friends.

This was my first composed music I had made in Reason. We were asked to created anything on reason, with any instrument we wanted, it just had to be at least 60 seconds. I was captivated by the mystical voices, and autotuned instruments. While creating it I had no idea whether to make a pop, techno, dance, or indy song. In the end I came up with what seem to be a soundtrack. I now have a huge passion for composing soundtracks

Infographic

This was my first time making an infographic. It was a difficult process, I switched my research subject so many times. At first I researched other video games and movie soundtracks, but ended up with barely any information. So I switched to researching the marketing world of soundtracks. I stumbled upon an article that was describing how some movies tried to involve famous singers to raise up their movie album sales. It was really fascinating. The most important thing to remember for an infograph is that it must have icons that you have created yourself. At first I had a hard time coming up with my icons, but in the end I am really proud with what I had come up with.

Progress

The whole point of the Explorations Unit was to find a new skill that you wanted to learn and to document the process. We were asked to take screen shots of our screens and ourselves. Since I decided to do music I also choose to have soundtracks of little bits of music I composed when I first started out.

Above are screenshots of the piktocharts I created for this project. I had a difficult time creating an infograph that had enough information. My subject was difficult to research, there was not alot of reliable resources. At first I had created a Infograph based on all the soundtracks that I was inspired from, and how different they are. But in the end I realized it lacked information, and I did not make my own icons. My second attempt I decided to research the marketing side of movie albums. Altough, it was still difficult to find resources, I learned alot. I also made my own little icons on Illustrator.

Down below are screenshots of the progress of making my music. I first started out with a little tune. It ended up sounding sad, or mysterious, so I attempted to create a happy tune. I kept switching from different emotions, and instruments. Starting a song was easy, but to finish it was difficult. I always created a new tune that I wanted to use, but it didn't fit in with the song I was currently creating. Down below are samples of music I created at the begining of the project. Most of them are creepy, but I did try to attempt using violins that had a pure sound and not a creepy sound.

Final Project

This is my Final Project of my music. Although I will never be fully pleased with my work, it can always be tweaked a little bit. I have realized that I tend to make my music mysterious, or sad. I would start with a happy tune and in the end I would tranform it into a sad tune. This piece was inspired by Lord of the Rings, when you see the Elf village in the woods. My music was influenced by the artist Enya, she has always created music that was gloomy and creepy. I started out with three instruments and in the end I was left with only one. I had a difficult time combining the different instruments together. I would plug random notes into the keyboard by ear, and change it up depending on my mood. This was a difficult, but exciting project for me. I hope that you like my music!
