Weekly Photo Blog

Future

What is inspiring to me about the future? Well, that it exists. The future exists and no matter how many leap seconds they keep throwing my way, it is approaching, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

The end.

Frame Within the Frame

The goal was to use natural elements to frame our subject. And hey, look who finally made it on the photo blog! My third cat, Loki. I told you he existed. Disregarding the admittedly messy framing with the telephone pole and wires, I think I got lucky taking this photo at the right moment for Loki’s head to be framed just right with the bush next to him.

Self-Portrait

Context: “As a Junior, you took a self portrait and told us who you think you are. To finish this off take a self portrait that shows us who others think you are.”

Well, actually, as a junior my class was not required to do the weekly photo challenge, so I don’t have a self-portrait to compare it to for a nice clean wraparound. Unless you count this, but I think I’d prefer you just forget about that entirely. Regardless, this here is how I think other people see me. Or maybe that’s just me projecting, because that’s how I see everyone else.

Food

I apologize for being unable to slap an NSFL tag on this post, because this post is a sin and it may take you a little time to recover from seeing this. It did taste fine, though.

Using Props

Here we were prompted to use props to make the photo interesting. So this may be kind of uninspired, but you can’t deny that reflections in water always look pretty cool. So here’s a picture taken down at my pool, reflecting the sun, intentionally framed in a half-decent position nested between some trees. Also I upped the saturation and adjusted the hue just to be obnoxious and make it slightly more interesting.

Storms

Storms! My favorite topic. Now, the prompt here was to show weather at its best. I would never be able to settle on one single photo as “the best” display of weather, but here’s one of my favorites. Impending apocalypse approaching. I had gotten my boating license about 90 minutes before this photo, and I had to outrun this looming storm driving a motor boat while watching the wind change and sky darken with each minute. An astraphobe’s nightmare, but also a storm enthusiast’s happy place. I happen to be both, so this was rather enjoyable.

Current Events

I’m scheduling this post in advance from 8 days early, so I have no idea how COVID-19 is doing now in this ever-changing landscape. But right now it’s killed my drive and made me miserable and sick. Disappointments everywhere, and intensifying frustration and anger with the hypocrites on the school board who have the gall to cancel every tiny event they can while refusing to even mention the blatant contagious nature of 3000 students in a confined space daily. Overall, this has happened during a time in my life when things were going really well, and now I don’t know how they’re going.

So here’s a picture of some clouds to the east at sunset. They’re nice clouds, but for some reason they look kind of sickly here. It should be nice, but it’s sickly. So there. That’s how I feel as a result of current events. I also feel very snarky.

Depth of Field

The goal here was to use depth of field to make something appear larger. Of course, my cat Sierra is already big enough to swallow a car, so that wasn’t so hard to do here.

Deadly Sins

I took the test a while back and I’m on my way to the 6th circle of hell. If anything, I was a little disappointed by that. Anyway, this here is one of my 7 Deadly Sins. You may be thinking this is gluttony, but it’s actually lust.

Musical

Here’s a photo of me playing what appears to be an E with a G# on a keyboard. Since November, I’ve taught myself how to play the piano, ukulele, and a basic understanding of music theory, as well as how to play the guitar (I understand how to do it, I’m just terrible at it). Here’s me playing the keyboard at 12:50 AM. I need to remove the blue tape, though, because it makes the keys look so much less photogenic.
