WELCOME

Welcome to my Project Information Page, a repertoire of all the project websites I’ve designed and coded at Freestyle over the course of two years! I created this website on Dreamweaver, incorporating Javascript and jQuery scripting in addition to the basic HTML and CSS we worked with last year. Each of the links on this page will lead you to the description and link to one of eight project pages which holds all my work from English, Design, and Web/Audio for that particular unit.

As you can see just from my various webpages, I’ve grown tremendously since the first day I stepped onto the colorful Freestyle campus. The heavy integration and intersection of all three courses I take here has promoted creativity and driven artistic and literary expression, allowing me to fully utilize the knowledge I’ve gained here and apply it to assignments in any and all classes. We are encouraged to stray from the beaten path, and the community at Freestyle reflects that; everyone is such a unique individual, and I wouldn’t have wanted to share this incredible two-year experience with any other set of weird, artsy, intellectual people.

I hope you enjoy browsing my websites as much as I enjoyed making them!

self portrait

Who am I? This was the question constantly running through my mind as I wrote, photographed, coded, and composed the answer to this exact question. This unit was all about self-exploration and discovery, looking into yourself and representing yourself with a metaphor. In the process of creating this website, I experienced many firsts: first time using Creative Cloud softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Lightroom), first time putting a website live on the internet, first time producing my own music with Garage Band, and first time taking pictures on manual mode with a DSLR camera. It was quite a grand introduction to the Freestyle creative process, and was the starting point of my Freestyle journey!

So who am I? Find out by exploring my website!

“Everyone has cracks.” My flash fiction, animation, and character portrait were all based off this life lesson that I myself learned while creating this project. No one is perfect and our imperfections are nothing to be afraid of or to hide. I communicated this idea through my writing in English, Flash animation in Web/Audio (featuring eggs), and photoshoot for Design. This unit was all about storytelling and making characters come to life, and while I hope that all my viewers (including you!) understand and sympathize with my characters, I take pride in knowing that crafting these stories and works taught me a lot about myself as well.

Check out my webpage to see how “everyone has cracks” came to be!

That plain cotton T-shirt you’re wearing? It took 2,700 liters of water to produce. Textile production takes a serious toll on the environment, which I discovered as I dove deep into Fabmo’s mission. Fabmo is a local textile recycling company that rescues otherwise landfill-bound fabrics and offers them to the artistic community for creative reuse. I documented this location and cause in my research paper, which was later developed into a book, replete with images of vibrant fabrics and passionate people, inspirational and touching words from my face-to-face interviews, and shocking statistics about the severity of the textile industry’s environmental impacts. Not only did I fall in love with the design and photography involved in crafting this project, I also grew very close with the amazing supportive community I was able to experience there!

I hope you get a glimpse of how impactful and innovative Fabmo is through this website!

Satisfaction by religion. With these three words, I composed a mixed media art piece, penned 150 lines of poetry, and designed an entire website. For this unit, we were assigned random conceptual statements and then encouraged to develop our own interpretations on what they meant, sharing our perspectives through various assignments. The result: lots of paint, meditation, and constellations. Seem like an unlikely combination? That’s the point! See how they all converge by taking a look at my experimental website!

Doug Bailey: substitute teacher by day, avid environmentalist by night, farmer by weekend, and full-time community man. I decided to paint a portrait of my neighbor who I’ve known for fifteen years of my life, and who has always been there to offer a homemade bottle of grapefruit soda or explain the difference between Italian and Persian basil. My website, portrait article, and photographic captures all attempt to do this amazing man and his charming and endlessly pleasant personality justice.

By visiting this website, you’ll get a taste of how sweet Doug’s personality (and his organic home-grown strawberries) are!

How do you effectively tell a story? That's the question we sought to answer with this unit. Visit this website to watch and read the story of a young girl's chance encounter with a sad old man, and how she helps him see hope and realize that there are plenty of other fish in the sea.

As my last project at Freestyle, the portfolio unit fittingly is a representation of my greatest work over the past two years. I've grown tremendously both as an artist and as a person, and my artwork has matured significantly as well. I hope you enjoy this reflection on my time here as well as some of my extracurricular artwork!
