ME!

BIO

Hey everybody, I'm Steven Frey and this is my website. Just to give you a little background on who made this ridiculous site, I was born in Stanford hospital on January 15th, 1991. I live in Los Altos California and have my whole life. I went to 3 elementary schools despite only moving 9/10ths of a mile from my old house. In 3rd grade I started playing the guitar and the saxophone soon after. Music has been a large part of my life ever since then and has helped to shape who I am. Until recently, I was very narrow minded about my music but, I've learned recently too be more open to all kinds of music, so now I can't say I listen to only rock anymore. I listen to everything. Except country. Nobody likes country. I play a couple sports, but strictly for recreational purposes. I don't plan on being the next Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky. I try to get as good grades as I can, but I often get sidetracked when doing schoolwork becasue it's just too damn boring. It's not that I don't care about my grades, it's that I don't care about what I'm being taught. Except at Freestyle. And I'm not just saying that since they will probably read this. Anywho, I'm currently a junior at Mountain View High School and I'm attending Freestyle. I hope you enjoy looking around my website, it's quite the blast. And before I go, I have one thing to ask of you. Look around you, take in your surroundings, every detail, everything. Don't leave any stone unturned (philosophical sense). Now I want you to imagine what life would be like if you were blind. Toodles.

Useless Ideas

Self-Portrait Artist Statement

This picture is me trying to show a little of how I feel as an individual in a creative sense. My whole concept was to have a bunch of wild, crazy, reckless versions of me, surrounding one collective, calm and centered version of me to symbolize and solidify the concept of how the creative mind can be reckless and incredibly uncentered, but that this state of thinking, I feel, is necessary in order to create original and powerful ideas. The state of thinking I’m referring to is the one of creative thought, of trying to think of what to do for your self-portrait or your illustration or any of these projects. It has to start completely uncentered, and become more focused as you get a clearer picture of what you want. I only colored the center figure and the guitars to put an emphasis on the fact that although all the figures in this photo are very different there is still a common factor between them all. It’s to show that they are all headed in the same direction, that they were made for the same purpose even though most of them are going to be discarded, they are part of the same idea and that without them the idea would not be the same, just as in this picture if I took out one of the figures it would not be the same picture and would not have the same effect on the viewer. I made the lighting for this picture extremely erratic and in many ways out of place, to draw the viewer’s attention to all corners of the panel, to realize all the details of the scenery and of all the characters. I also choose to emphasize this chaotic look to the picture by choosing and extremely messy background where any clear subject is hard to distinguish from the wall. The main point of this picture is to give a visual concept to the idea that in the end, all of the strange ideas and farfetched thoughts that end up being cast aside in the creative process are still essential to the process none the less and are the essential pieces to make the end result.
