Conceptual

Being a Freestyle student, I have more access to what I’m interested in. In digital media, we are learning programs like Audition, Premier Pro, and Photoshop. They provide me the ability and skills to do more creative work either for personal projects or business.
In the following section, the Conceptual projects help to develop our ability to communicate through different methods and media based on a topic.

Haiku: Expired summer

The Haiku project began in English as the first activity in the Freestyle Academy school year. The project was based on a theme given by the teacher, to explore how an emotion combines with a situation. My theme is to “explore the hostility while watching children play”. The poem was based on my experience of taking care of my little brother when I was trying to study. In my perspective, I think the hostile operas as nervous about the children’s safety and anger towards the chaos. I wrote the poem in English class and finished the following short video in Digital Media. In class, we explored the recorder for voice, Premier PR for video editing, and Audition for voice editing. The following is the final of my work.

I think the value of the Haiku project is to “test” out how much a student can do at the beginning of the year, it collaborates skills in English and Digital media classes which helps students build cooperation between courses and explore different media at the beginning of the year. To strengthen the ideas and to illustrate them in the “right” place that is not cliche or too abstract.

“Why art” essay

The following section is a project of essay and presentation we did in English class. As the student of Freestyle Academy, we explore the meaning of art through this assignment. I read the article “Where Fashion and Dance Collide” by Iris van Herpen and Damien Jalet, then reflect on the idea of art based on the article and combine them with my essay thesis.

This project really helped me to discover the meaning of art in my life and in the world, and why it matters.

Photoshop blend mode editing section

In this section, we are assigned to explore the Blend Modes in Photoshop in Digital Media class, which has significant use in photo editing or digital art.

Personally blending modes are really important for me to do creative photo editing, and sometimes art. I think they look more interesting and have stronger messages than the original ones.

Elective: design

Design is a very useful class for me, we learn about creative graphic applications like Illustrator and Photoshop which can support my career now and in the future.

Alpha Name Photography

In this project, we are assigned to find objects in real life that look like our name alphabet characters, take pictures in black and white mode, and finally place them all together by using Photoshop.

I think it is an interesting experience to explore different patterns in life that might be ignored, it helps me to cultivate views to find beauty and pay attention to details.

Conceptual photo

In this section of the Design conceptual project, we are doing a photoshoot based on a prompt and expressing the objective and emotional elements through props, composition, and lighting.

My prompt is “Exploring hostility through watching children play”. I separated the prompt into “hostility” and “watching children play”. I think the color red can largely represent the emotion of hostility so I painted the box red as a symbol of resentment under the circumstances that having the responsibility to take care of children. I used my phone to project a photo of a bunch of stacked blocks to represent “children playing”. The movement of putting it in the half-closed box also shows my interpretation of hostility as a strong emotion that does not want people to do certain things. And the feeling of “caution” was also created by placing the red and white light diagonally.
