Design

For the Design element of the Citizen project, we took the lyrical essay we wrote in English and represented it in both a street-photography and text manipulation diptych and a Japanese stab binding book.

Diptych

For the diptych, we did street photography with an emphasis on capturing unsolicited human emotion that represents the mood evoked by our lyrical essay. The moods I drew on from my piece were excited, rushed, shocked, stuck between, and nationality. After choosing one of many photos captured the represented this mood, I made it into a diptych by creating a silhouette on the other part of the diptych and filling it with text from my essay, warped to fit the figure appropriately.

 

Japanese Stab Binding Book

The Japanese book took all those main feelings from my lyrical essay and hand-made a book with kanji, Japanese illustrations, and watercolor photos of nature.
