Conceptual

Introduction

I’ve learned to present all my creative ideas and projects by knowing all these resources given to me. The skills I learn promote my creative risk-taking ability in music, painting, animations, experimental video, and web development. By becoming familiar with various cutting-edge professional tools and software that aid video-making, music production, and graphic design, I have gained all sorts of outlets for my creative ideas.

Freestyle is a community that values getting the most out of its students. The high standards within the classes push all the students to reach their full potential. It is a place for all creatives to thrive in.

Haiku

Using what we learned from the English and Digital Media class, we used our visual storytelling skills to make our haiku poems come alive. Using tools such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and DSLR cameras, we learned to tell our stories alongside visual cues.

Premiere Pro Session of Haiku Video. Finding the right music to fit the overall vibe of the photo and poem was fun, and then putting it all together was perfect.

Free Verse Poetry

Writing the free verse poem was super fun since we could choose and topic to write about. I wrote it about my own experience trying to make movies. Describing the creative process through creative poetry was the most abstract thing I’ve ever done, and it was enjoyable.

Since the poem is about the visual arts I thought it would be fitting for the photo background to be of a person taking a picture
This was the audio recording I did of the poem to help express my emotions when performing it.

This project was another great example of all the tools we learned from English and Digital Media collaboration. First, the poem-writing process was enjoyable, and then we used Photoshop and our recording equipment to capture the performance life. I appreciate that we got to record our voices since everyone can have their interpretation of an art piece, but witnessing how the creator wanted the tone to sound was astonishing.

Photoshop Blend Mode Editing

This assignment was one of my favorites since we could take the photos we took and enhance them even more with the creative blending tools. Layers, lighting, and depth were all manipulated to our taste and were fun to mess around with. All this was done in Photoshop, with a lot of freedom and editing capabilities.

I value the creativity I can use when learning these blend tools; being able to blend other photos into backgrounds and changing the look and coloring of them helps me enhance the images a lot! I definitely would use this for my future career when wanting to make movie posters that require lots of layers and blend modes to make them look cool.

Film

For our first assignment in Film, we had to come up with a written synopsis of an experimental plot that we would later film and edit with a very abstract style. The point of the project was to force everyone out of their comfort zones and “experiment” with different film and editing techiniques.

This is my final Experimental Synopsis that I wrote before I started shooting. The final product ending up having a different plot due to revisions but it’s cool to look back at the original idea.

Final Experimental Film

This is the final draft of the Experimental Film. The conceptual statement was “The feeling of distrust when asking someone to dance”, which is why my goal was to add music and sound affects that were unsettling and off.

Suspense Scene

This was a really fun short video to shoot since we had a lot of creative freedom. This mini project was less important for developing our storytelling skills and more important for portraying emotion and suspense with our shots.

Chase scene

This was by far the hardest yet most rewarding film we shot because the goal was to get the perfect pace and conflict, while shooting with no dialogue.
