Species

Contrary to popular belief, there is a large amount of humanoid species other than humans that have populated the Earth during its history. Listed below are the more notable ones, but they are not the only species to have lived on or visited the planet, such as Gorgl’psi, G.E.M.s, and Gods.

Human

Humans are the dominant species on Earth, with over 7 billion of them living upon the planet. Unless they have residual magic genes due to their ancestors being creatures or crumans, there is no chance for them to be able to use magic. Like other sapient life forms, humans have souls, meaning they can reincarnate or return as ghosts.

Cruman

Crumans are the offspring of a human and a creature (any non-human sapient). While they appear identical to humans, they can often receive magic powers, and can use them easily by obtaining the energy required from their human half. Crumans are officially defined as someone who has at least one creature great-grandparent (12.5% creature). Crumans who can use magic typically prefer being referred to as “magic-users”, as they see cruman as a slur with negative connotations, while non-magic using crumans simply call themselves humans. Like other sapient life forms, crumans have souls, meaning they can reincarnate or return as ghosts.

Demon

Demons, also known as vampires, are the most human-like creatures, even appearing nearly identical at times. Their distinguishing traits are their pointed ears and longer canine teeth they can display at will (or involuntarily when hungry). Demons seem to be able to live indefinitely by feeding off of the substances of humans to maintain their strength and youth. If they go too long without food, they’ll slowly lose their composure and resort to animalistic methods until their next meal can be obtained. Like other sapient life forms, demons have souls, meaning they can reincarnate or return as ghosts.

Fairy

Fairies appear similarly to “chibi” styles of artwork, with smaller bodies, wide heads, enlarged eyes, and no visible ears or noses. They have no digits at the end of their limbs, instead ending in round “stumps”, but are still somehow able to grasp objects as needed. Fairies live indefinitely by feeding off the emotions of humans to maintain their strength and youth and perform magic – “light” fairies ask for permission before feeding and use the excess magic for the wishes of their source, while “dark” fairies feed without consent and use the magic for their own purposes. While it is believed that fairies have souls, there have been no known cases of fairies reincarnating or returning as ghosts.

Fiera

Fieras have bodies entirely made of flames. Very little is known about fieras, as they were sealed away in the Anti-Zone centuries ago and few have been seen since, and their destructive nature deters many from any attempts to research them further.

Nymph

Nymphs are protectors of the environment, particularly in regions where a large amount of magical phenomena occur. They seem to be formed out of natural materials relating to their host, such as rocks, water, or bark. As long as their host remains healthy, nymphs receive its energy to maintain their power and youth. Nymphs are known to go as far as to curse and kill humans in order to make sure their hosts are protected. The most common types of nymphs are tree and river nymphs, though there have also been reports of volcano, island, and lake nymphs. Nymphs are not known to be able to reincarnate or return as ghosts.

Spirit

Spirits, also known as ghosts, are formed when souls return to the mortal plane after death for unknown reasons. Only humans, crumans, and demons have been known to return in this way in order to complete their unfinished business. Spirits are naturally attracted to those they knew in life, and can choose to make themselves visible to only a select few. Upon completing their business their soul is freed and sent for either reincarnation or their final resting place.

Wraith

Wraiths are mysterious creatures that tend to appear only at seemingly historically significant events. Their bodies are slender and angular, and only ever observe, never interfering. There have been no known instances of more than one wraith appearing at a time nor them ever audibly communicating. Evidence suggests they have connections to the god Serena Spook.

Golem

Golems are formed out of rocks held together with magic. They are sometimes created when a lost spirit is attempting to interact with the corporeal plane, but can also be created by Potion-magic users. Golems seem to have no limit to their lifespan and may be able to live indefinitely. While they can see and hear, they cannot smell or speak and seem to have no sense of tactile touch. Golems tend to be viewed as lesser by other beings due to this and are often used for little more than menial tasks.

「ｇｕａｒｄｉａｎ」

「ｇｕａｒｄｉａｎｓ」 are the natives of the Anti-Zone and warp our understandings of space itself just by their appearances. Trying to accurately sketch them has proven futile, with every person who views them describing vastly different beings. While they seem to be able to communicate with each other, nobody has been able to communicate with them, and all who enter their civilizations have never returned. Their strange nature deters most from researching them further.
