Narrative Unit

Welcome to the Red Team Website!

For the Narrative unit at freestyle high, we were introduced to the art of telling short stories.

We were first introduced to the topic in our English Class, with the story Metamorphosis, Which was written about a young working man by the name of Gregor, and his family. Some of the students opted for the Honors english option, which required them to read another author of short fiction, and write analysis of their style. However, this style-analysis essay was in addition to the Short story piece that we all had to write. To create meaning in our writing, we read the story 1984 by George Orwell. The dystopia presented in the world of 1984 brought some interesting questions and revelations about our current society, and Orwell's style or writing, how and where it was effective, gave us a great example for the style and charecteristics of a great story.

In Design, we studied the principles of photography that allows a short sequence of photos to tell a story. Using some famous photographers' works as our examples, we quickly began to work on creating our own photonarratve. The theme used for our photonarrative was the fuel for our Short Stories.

In Web Design/Audio Engineering, we took our photonarratives and our short stories, and combined the two into a single I-Movie project, which takes our photonarrative and shows you how we interpreted them.

When we completed 1984 we were told that we were going to be creating a Children's book as a class. a charming idea, if complicated in execution. We read many childrens' stories, such as guji guji, and owl moon in an effort to understand the written elements that make up a childrens' story. From there, we went to Design, where we analyzed the graphic elements of these stories, and took our ideas into Adobe Illustrator CS3 for creation.

Perhaps most importantly,

In Web/Audio, we were told that we would be making a Flash Animation. Now we spent most of the quarter aquainting ourselves with the program Adobe Flash CS3, and going through the Animation Process: Story/Script----->Art Direction----->Storyboarding----->Layout----->Animation & backgrounds---->Editing---->Publishing.

I worked with the leader of the Blue team, Scotty B. to produce this Flash Animation, which is a parody of the popular Internet series, Red vs. Blue, produced by Rooster Teeth.
