Artist Statement
My piece is about my disconnection from others. I am interested in this topic because I am aware of everyone else’s interlaced communities, yet I remain distant from those communities, because although they all appear the same on the outside, they are all very different on the inside. Nothing is what it seems to me.
By converting the photos to grayscale I show everyone’s similarity. While retaining color in the iris or glasses lens, and adjust that color I want to express the eyes differences to reflect the differences within groups. Because my eye is in the center I chose this layout to express how I feel trapped, and surrounded yet hidden and secluded.
It’s my intention that when people look at my piece they are reminded that they live in a world of diversity. And that there are some people that just don’t fit.
