Thought Realm: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Kevin Van Dyke (2013)

In my personal essay, I wrote about how I see things differently from everybody else. Of course, this is true for everybody, but I consider it especially true for me. I have my own unique, quirky interpretations of everything that others see very differently.

''Thought Realm'' is a depiction of the barrier between people’s minds. We all think so differently, yet we are able to communicate seamlessly. The silhouette of one man looking towards another has a set of thoughts all around him, symbols which I associate with myself. He is looking at a translucent wall separating him from another silhouette which is blurry. Of course, he cannot see the other mans thoughts. Not all of the spaces behind ''me'' are filled, because I tend to space out and also at times, think narrow-mindedly. The ''realm'' is colored blue to represent peace, because I am usually thinking very mild, slow, serene thoughts.
