Carter: A Narrative Character Portrait by Andie Burns (2014)

The character shown in this portrait is Carter, a twenty-two year old blind man. He lives in an apartment in the city with his guide dog, Molly. In my narrative, Carter wakes up one morning to find that Molly has gone missing, and is so distraught that he runs after her without thinking. Out on the street he hears a dog barking, but as he begins to run towards the sound he is very nearly hit by a taxi speeding around the corner. Molly, who is not the dog that had been barking, runs after Carter and pulls him back to safety just before the car drives past. The moment that this character portrait depicts is when Carter realizes that his dog is missing and is deciding what he should do.
