For this project, I wanted to make a sequence of transformation: through a magical sequence, the girl has some kind of cathartic experience that brings color to her world. I immediately decided to choose a child for my subject, and I wanted to include some kind of big colorful surprise. Using alcohol markers, I experimented to figure out what I wanted the explosion to look like, swapping out color combinations and layering the strokes in different ways to try to make it as bright and colorful as possible. I also added a frog at the center of the wheel that jumps down and delivers a blue swirl that “revives” the girl to add a playful and childish element. Because there was no way to spin the wheel smoothly, I had a hard time figuring out what the timing was going to be while I was drawing it. As a result, the animation is faster than I expected and more difficult to follow. If I were to redo this project, my changes would be centered around this fact.
