For the animation project, I decided to work with a partner, Jackie. Together we collaborated throughout the semester, starting off with this animatic. An animatic is a series of panels of rough sketches outlining the scene sequence or major changes of an action or plot in a production t be shot on film or video. As our first step for this project, we drew in our storyboard panels with pencil and then scanned our panels into the computer. With our minimal sketches, we were taught different animating techniques in Flash. The main purpose of this animatic is to act as a rough draft for our animation.

Jackie and I made this animation based on my English Narrative short story. It is about a girl who immigrates to America from Japan and struggles to fit in and adjust into a new atmosphere, but eventually realizes that being different from everyone else isn't so bad after all. For the animation, we made our characters crayons and other school supplies rather than actual students for the sake of drawing and animating. We also wanted to show that being different is in fact a good thing, for it distinguishes you from everyone else. The long process of learning the Flash program to create an animation was definitely tedious, but we are very proud of the final outcome. We hope you enjoy it!
