Sling
In my picture, we see a wooden sling shot, a snapped string and bursts of colorful geometric shapes coming out from behind a piece of paper with words written on it. These words are demeaning and insulting, and generally what you would hear from a schoolyard bully. Rightfully so, the story follows the misdeeds of a corrupt teacher’s assistant named Kevin. Driven by the jeers and teasing directed at him as he was a young boy, he now is taking revenge on those who made fun of him as a kid by purposely misgrading the tests of his peers.
I chose to use a slingshot because it is a common symbol for childhood. The sling holding the paper ball of insults represents the torment, eventually snapping and preventing the ball of insults for being pulled anymore. Once the sling is broken, the burst of colors and shapes shows Kevin’s freedom and opportunity for revenge, spreading in each and every direction to all who hurt him.
