The Merge
My photographs are about merging the inside with the outside. Merging is not switching from one space to the next, it is combining the two spaces to gain a new perspective. Because I only know my own viewpoint, I find it important to imagine the viewpoints of others around me. With the merged perspective, I can deepen my understanding of situations and ideas. The moon lights the dark night just like the lamp lights the dark room, but what if the barriers between them were absent? My goal was to merge the two separate spaces by unifying their light sources. Because of the cold, blue light, the two light sources defied the laws of inside and outside, they existed together without barriers. The wall with the box and the cloudy sky merge as the horizon lets them coexist. I want the viewer to experience the feeling of two merging atmospheres.

Year Traveler

The past is something that I have buried underneath my present-day life.   Projects of my current interest occupy me completely. It is far too easy to forget the early experiences that founded my very character and beliefs.  Like old foundation, my memories have crumbled beneath me.  There is, however, hope in what has been described to me as “My Future”.  My illustration is composed of some different mementos I have taken off the shelf, dusted off, and fixed together.  They are traveling through a sky that is tarnished with papers and assignments that currently bog me down.  I intend the faded color and surreal unification of the objects to communicate the fading and stretching of memory.  I hope that this piece will help not only me, but also the viewer appreciate the sense of memory and value the cornerstones of being an individual.
