For my illustration I had to symbolically represent my topic of my research paper, Are Fathers Important? I used Illustrator and Photoshop to compose my complete illustration. In Photoshop I added a distressed look of old parchment, to make it look like an old document. Pay attention to the symbols and take away your own interpretation of my illustration.
Artist Statement:
Family Tree
Family is family. I am growing up with a loving and supporting family. They keep me grounded, just like the strong roots of trees that tie them to the ground. Through thick and thin I know my family will surround me. Vicki and Lisa, a gay couple, are raising their children just like all parents. They give them a strong and supportive “root system.” They are a family no matter what. No one can take that away from them.
I used the idea of a family tree and symmetry to show the equality between our two families; my family, with my mom and dad, and their family, with two moms. I tried to create a look of parchment paper by layering images on top. The dark browns I used hopefully convey that it is an old family document. I hope the viewer can take away a sense of understanding. Family is family, no matter what.

We got to choose which project we would like to do: Article or Photobook.
I choose to do the Article. For the article we had to create a "magazine" type article. There was a minimum amount of photos we had to include, at least 12. Are English research paper was the content for our articles. When creating a article you have to think carefully about layout. Where the pictures are going to go, text, and quotes. I hope you enjoy looking at and reading my article Are Fathers Important? Some things to look for style, family photos, and quotes. When you read my article I hope you can keep and open mind and heart.
