Does it play mp3’s?

So here, in America,
we are always told
That we’ve got it better off
With our obesity problems
instead of starving people,
Our gas guzzing SUVs
killing the ozone,
And our wonderful stash
Of WMDs.

And maybe ten years into the future,
we’ll have some kind of solar powered chair
that we can sit in all day
because it can fly
to take us where we need to go
with a built in bed, bathroom, kitchen
and an mp3 player.
Everything has to play mp3’s.

All they have
In those other worlds
-that is what we think of them as right?
Why else would we call those places
“third world” countries
if they were a part of our world?
They have poverty
Dirt roads
Strange religious customs
And restricted freedoms.

But one thing
That we don’t always realize
Is slipping way from us slowly
In our high speed lifestyles
Is our time.
How much of our time with friends
Is replaced by a call on our cellphones
Or a quick email?
How much of our time with our families
Is replaced by our 60 inch, plasma TVs?
How much of our time enjoying life
Is replaced by working overtime
To buy the world?
