Animated Narration

In the Web Design/Audio Engineering Class we were asked to create a 1-2 minute animation using Adobe Flash from the short stories we had written in English. This proved to be the hardest thing I have done at Freestyle. First we were told to create an animatic (a very rough road map of the animation with sounds effects, dialogue, and scene changes but no animated motion) which took several days to complete, then we started work on drawing all of our images and characters for our animation, which took up the majority of my time. Completing the final animation was a daunting task. Luckily, with extended lab hours, I was able to come in after school and use that time to finish my animation. Enjoy.

Animatic

The purpose of an animatic is to provide a road map for the animation you are going to create. Taking the storyboard panels you created for your story, you slice them into individual panels and convert them to individual scenes in Flash. Then camera motion, dialogue, and sound effects are added to provide visual and audible guidelines for the animation.

17th and Lawson

I have always found myself inspired by rather depressing aspects of life, and this animation, as you can probably already tell, is no exception. The negative side of the spectrum of human emotion seems far more interesting and complex for some reason. This may be because people spend more time focusing on why they are depressed than why they are joyful, but that is neither here nor there.

When I was asked to write a short story in English I found myself at a loss for inspiration. After several days of writer's block, I found inspiration in a newspaper article discussing the recent string of suicides. I wondered what the thought process of a person who was falling to their death would be. I decided to display my creative vision of this thought process through Death hearing a woman's thoughts as she jumped off her office building because I thought that would be a very interesting, engaging platform.
