Webgems

A webgem is a website, video or article from the web that you find interesting. A webgem could be a website that you visit daily, weekly, monthly, or have just recently discovered. Webgems relate to the question "who am I?" because a webgem is something that you identify with and find cool, which relates to you and your personality.

Huffinton Post is an online destination for news, blogs, and all original content about politics, entertainment, style, world news, technology, and comedy. Huffington Post has its big wesbite as well as local smaller websites. For example, there is a HuffPost Chicago. This just features news, celebrity entertainment and style from the region of Chicago. Esty is a website much like amazon. It was launched in 2005 by Robert Kalin, Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik, Etsy allows for people to both buy and sell homemade goods as well as factory produced goods. On Etsy you can find a wide variety of items including art, photography, clothing, jewlery, food, bath and beauty products, quilts, knick-knacks, and toys. Personally, I have bought rings, keychains, and bracelets from etsy. There are currently over thirty million sellers on Etsy and over one billion dollars annually in transactions have been recorded. I would recommend Etsy to anyone who wants to buy cool handcrafted items.

Pinterest is a website that offers a fun and easy way to discover and share new crafty ideas. Users of Pinterest create and share their boards of visual bookmarks. To create a board you simply select the item, or webpage and pin it to your board. People often create themed boards to help the discovery process. I have used Pinterest for my history class. We created a board all about the slave trade in the 1800s. I linked many different websites and photos to my board to create awarness about my topic. Pinterest is a very cool way to discover new things.

People is both a magazine and an online website. It features celebrity and human-interest stories and is published by Time Inc. People magazine has the largest audience of any American magzine- which explains my love to read it online. Now-a-days everything is starting to go online because of easier access. I love reading People magazine online at home without having to go out to the store and buy a copy of it. People is a great website to get your latest celebrity gossip from. I consider People.com to be one of the most reliable celebrity news websites out there.

Netflix is a website that allows you to watch a variety of movies and tv shows. Netflix offers a wide variety of genres to choose from. It is a safe and reliable website to watch good quality tv on. Netflix does, however, require you to pay about eight dollars a month. While netflix offers a wide range of movies and tv shows that are on broadcast television, they also produce their own tv shows. For example. Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. Netflix requires you to use wifi because it is a website not an application for your computer. Personally, I love to use Netflix when I am bored or when I am sick and have nothing else to do.

Instagram is an app for your smart-phone and can be accessed through the internet as well. Instagram allows you to post photos of yourself, your friends, food, scenery; basically anything you can think of. Now-a-days many teens feel the need to express themselves on the internet and I think that Instagram provides a safe and interesting place for people to do that. People not only use Instagram to show pictures of themselves, many people use it to show how to do DIY projects. In all, Instagram allows you to show people who you are and things you like through photos.
