"?"

This piece was assigned asking, what are your hopes and fears for the next ten years.? Where do you want to be? What do you want to do? Those kinds of questions. Well as a seventeen year old boy who is not even one fifth of the way through his life, I have no clue what I want to do, so that idea is out. Or wait, I don’t care where I am in ten years,  I don’t have any fears or hopes, there are pros and cons to every choice I see in ten years. So in this piece I choose to say, I don’t know.

First in this piece I was going to just put in the drawn question mark, a plain way to say I don’t know. But my predicament isn’t that simple, it is actually quite confusing, so I thought what is really simple but quite confusing. An optical illusion. The lines behind the Mark are straight with grey borders, which create the illusion of slanted lines. The boxes in side the mark are inverse to the boxes outside the mark with an added question mark inside each box to help extenuate the fact that there are many questions and I don’t know the answers.

When you view this illustration I want you to see the optical illusion, question its necessity, how does it help the piece. Then I want you to look at the question mark, over all we now it’s a symbol for questioning. But I want you to question what I’m questioning.  When you see this illustration I want you to question, what will I do in ten years, where will I be, what are my hopes and fears? I want you to think are they the same as they where ten years ago, do you think they’ll be the same ten years from now?
