Opportunity

My piece is very easy to grasp in a literal sense. It's a man looking for a bunch of keys in a large pile of leaves and he can't them. So in order to find them, he sets the pile on fire eliminating any challenge in the task. But when he looks through the ash, there's only one key left when there were many when he started looking, and he's not satisfied with the key that he found.

The keys are metaphors for possibilities and opportunities in life and the pile of leaves is an obstacle that prevents us from finding them. The basic metaphor is how many people don't take the time to thoroughly find all their possibilites and instead go for the quick and easy way out, but how that can often result in the person being unstaisfied with what they chose.

I think a lot of people, especially in high school can relate to this because we have a lot of life changing decisions to make in the coming years of our lives and that it feels like we may be rushed into some of them without giving the proper thought and bad decisions are made because of it. I know this is a growing concern because I really try to keep my options open for later life, but I find that it's increasingly hard to do that with so much pressure to make definite desicions like classes I take, colleges I apply to, what I want to major in, and all of that stuff. I hope that people will take away a sense of caution when thinking through their actions and decisions before they are made.
