It was a nice sunny day when my sister, mother and met our new neighbors. Our mother had told us that the neighbors had kids about our age and we were excited to meet them. When we finally met them, they extended their arms to us, offering a handshake. When our mother explained how they were going to build a house (didn’t mention two-story), the neighbors seemed supportive. “If there is anything you need just let us know,” the neighbors adjacent to the front of the house told us. We felt so welcomed into this community; we thought we had stumbled into heaven. When most families enter large scale projects such as this, they tend to forget the consequences of the adventure. What does someone lose through exploits like this? When there is a “threat” introduced, such as a new member of the community who wants to deviate from the community’s ideals, which is the greater incentive: to up the value of your house by making the property value on someone else’s house go down or to be passive and never make any changes that might make someone mad? If the city council did not side with the community, what would the council be seen as?
