Artist Statement

     My theme for this project is Manufactured Fear, horror movies, and the way the government use fear to control people. For this piece I more specifically explored the motivation to see a horror movie. I’ve never understood why someone would ever want to pay the ever-rising price of a movie ticket only to see something meant to scare him or her. Personally, I hate being scared, especially when there is no reason to be afraid.
     To create my piece I took a scene (Privet Dr.) from a very popular not horror movie (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). I turned day into night and added some details, the using illustrator I traced the image. Then I projected it onto a canvas, traced it again, and painted it. When people see my piece I hope they realize the irony in paying money to be scared.
