In our english class we had to create a graphic novel, with a story that had to include a protagonist, and a climax. For our flash fiction unit we then had to write a short story about our graphic novel which I display below.

Motionless, he listens to the rattle, as the clock vibrates to the edge of the nightstand.Waking up to the sound of the same old alarm, Thomas Brown rises to what he believes to be a new day not much different from the last. As he notices his delay, he slips on his three piece suit, and hops in his car. Arriving at the office, the stack of paperwork is dropped on his desk. With a deep breath he continues the rest of his day. When the day had finally come to an end, he arrives home only to find his car left open, with the battery dead, and the radio stolen.

After a long hour of hitchhiking, a ride is finally offered, and Thomas is able to get home. Although this day hadn’t been great, Thomas believed things could only get better. He returns home to find his house on fire. After various attempts of stopping the large flames from consuming his house, he grabs his ladder with a bucket of water and climbs to the top. At that moment one of the steps breaks and he falls to the ground. Thomas had hit rock bottom, literally.

That same night he woke up to the sound of doctor Franklin’s voice. “Do you remember what happened?” Next to Franklin stood Jim, the firefighter at the scene of the fire. He came to Thomas and said: “I have good news and bad news”. Hearing this Thomas, didn't believe it could get much worse, yet he had decided that whatever happened that day was a slap in the face, a wake up call to his life, and that he would be happy. The firefighter then confessed that the only thing they were able to save was his briefcase. Thomas was happy.
