Pop!

Medium: Screen printed with acrylic ink onto cotton

This skirt is my translation of pop art in the modern day. I’m fascinated by pop art and I wanted learn more about it by exploring the process of creating a pop art work. I was inspired by some of my favorite pop artists such as Keith Haring, Jasper Jones, and Roy Lichtenstein to create this piece. I used social media logos, because I think they are representative of the way we consume today’s popular culture and the substantial role that social media plays in our current culture. I used a bold graphic style and primary colors to provide contrast and play further into the pop art style. I created the design on Adobe Illustrator, screen printed it onto fabric, and made the skirt using homemade pattern.
