What is an Animatic?

An animatic basically consists hand-drawn frames of the main actions in the story. They are scanned into, sliced in Photoshop, and put into Flash. From there, we use those still frames, or photos, to create a summary of the story that tells us where to zoom, when to pause, where the sounds goes, and other things concerning the making of a Flash movie.

My Artist Statement:

When it came down to the writing, I decided not to use big words, not to use long sentences that included deep thought. I wanted it to be choppy because she’s trying to get the point across quickly; she’s trying to avoid the thought of what she did. Instead of using a narrator, I wanted the reader to see what she was writing in order to get a deep sense of how she feels and how regretful she is. The reader can relate to the girl a lot more that way. The format of this also gives meaning behind it. The entire short story isn’t entirely her journal, but parts of her journal along with her internal thoughts. If someone was the read just the italics, which indicates it’s being written, it connects well but I wanted to include her thoughts in this story to give a sense that she’s only writing part of the story down. The rest is being said to herself. Therefore, she’s not letting anything go and as she’s writing, she’s still clinging on to her regrets, disabling her to move forward and make the best use of her time. I did this because a lot of times doctors, therapists, friends and such say that saying it out, writing it down is a form of letting an expression go and it will always loosen a tight knot. Last but not least, I focused more on syntax didn’t focus so much on imagery because my focus was about how she was handling it and how she felt.
