For both the English graphic novel and flash fiction, the premise was to see how well we could create a story. The flash fiction was our stepping stone. It lead for the inspiration to all of the other projects, save the illustration.

Reflecting, I made four graphic novels so for me, this classified it as the hardest project. However, after four attempts, the last turned out pretty well. The flash ficiton also had to be done two times for one was not based off my graphic novel. In the end, the biggest thing I learned is that a best first attempt will always get you much farther than trying many times with good efforts.

She sits in front of the cobblestone slab, listening to the serene chirp of birds, rustling of grass, and the scampering of squirrels. With little perception to her surroundings, she briskly moves her hand into her purse and pulls out the same coin that her father gave to her nine years ago. The same coin she looks at everyday. The same coin which has been in the same pocket for nine years. She’s became twenty-one this year, or as she put it, coming of age. She moves her hand over the rough engravings of the coin, and shivers with each bump. A tear forms in her eye, and she shakily wipes it off, and slowly rises. She suddenly becomes aware of footsteps behind her, each crunching the grass and autumn leaves at it’s brisk pace. Slyly she turns around and see’s who she expected. Without a word, he takes his jacket off, and wraps it around her. They lean down together and whisper one more prayer to her father. He feels the ring in his pocket. Sweat starts to collect on his brow, and he spins it around in his pocket. He smiles at the afterthought of his actions, and decides to go through with them. When she stands up after the prayer, he’ll do it. It’s now, or never. He pulls out the ring, and she looks exuberant. Her best friend has finally proposed to her. Before she can say yes, a sly smile forms on his face, and he says he really wants a dog, so to get one he would bribe her with the ring. She takes it in her hands, and throws it in rage. This is the third time he’s done this. She loves him to death, but he can never be her everything. He can’t take anything seriously.
