An animatic is a simplified version of an animation. It is a series of still images (scans of paper storyboards) edited together and played as a movie. Rough dialogue and sounds are also added. Their purpose is to serve as a preview of what the final animation will look like. Also, animators use them as tools to help them decide how to piece their animation together.
