Portrait

In this unit, I learned how to visually tell a story. When we were first presented with this idea, my mind was a little boggled by all the different possibilities. After taking over 100 photos with my model, I had to narrow down all my choices to just one photo, the one above. I believe that this photo tells my story, Harlin, the best out of any others. It allows the viewer to really imagine for themselves what exactly Harlin is thinking and reading.

In this photo, I capture my main character, Harlin. Harlin is a shy, quiet, and introspective high school girl, who loves to write (and she’s good at it too). In my story, the cliche “cool girl,” Christy, approaches Harlin and asks her to rewrite her essay for her. In my photograph, I capture Harlin, sitting alone, flipping through her notebook. This is before Christy asks her for help. Harlin is not necessarily lonely, but she is the type of person who is okay on their own. She is currently very content with being by herself, and does not have any intentions of changing that-- until Christy comes along, that is.
