Web Gems are websites that I will put up each week that I think are good websites for different reasons. They might be a design I like or have a feature I appreciate. They are the websites that I have found to be entertaining or interesting to me. I hope you check them out.

This movie just reminded me of all the times that I took the escalator instead of the stairs because it is more entertaining, or at least it was when I was younger. I love the idea that adding just a little bit of creativity to the world can change the way it works. People are not drawn to the stairs, but when they look different, which is in the beginning, what changed their minds to take the stairs. I think if we added a more creative world around us in just little ways to promote health or exersise, it would really make a difference. Even without putting in all of the music and sounds, just changing the appearance could have quite a bit of the same effect. |

I found this website on StumbleUpon.com and thought that it was extremely amusing. Everyone has days that they wish they knew how to piss people off without being completely obvious about it. I thought that many of these ideas would be useful. As I read it I also could point out people in my life who had done that task or something similar to almost every number going down the list. We can all think of the person that decides that during a quiet class period that it is necessary to play a drum solo with his pencil and although the song ends, the solo never seems to. |

Givemehope.com is an inspiring website with adorable stories about love and helpfulness. Some of the stories can push you to find how you can help people in the smallest ways and also make people really happy. There are stories about special needs that are overcome and the people are succeeding in life. Few categories that are useful are the "Best of the Week", "Best of the Year" and "Best of the Month". These stories are truly heartfelt and truly happy stories. This is a great website to read when in a bad mood or having a fight because it can remind you how important the small things in life are. |

 Modcloth is a clothing store that brings older fashions into the more modern world. They adjust styles to help incorporate new trends and new flattering styles. One of my favorite parts to this store is the accessory department. The accessories are vintage in style but modern in quality. They are beautiful and have many different types of jewelery. The ideas that the designers have are amazing and they are created to the same level of perfection. I love the clothes and wish I could buy them all. The prices are reasonable and the website as a whole is straightforward and easy to use. |

Gmail has saved my life! I have adapted my Gmail accounts to receive the emails that were sent to an older email address. The accessability is a great because it is on the web everywhere in the world. Another great feature is the extremely easy way to create a new email address and calendars. A single Gmail account provides access to Google Docs, Google Calendar, Gmail chat and many new features that keep developing. Google Docs is a fantastic way to transfer documents between people of computers. The calendar is really helpful as well. It has great ways to organize events and put other people's calendars to see scheduling conflicts. A feature that I find useful is the text message option. I have my calendar send me alerts for what is going on during the day and what is due. |

Hulu is an amazing website that is remarkably easy to maneuver throughout and has a huge library of television show, movies, clips and behind the scenes footage. Most current shows that are popular are updated the day after the new episodes are aired. The shows are organized to show a simple list of most popular, most recent and featured on the home page. On the menu, there are multiple categories to help you find the show, episode, or movie that you are looking for. Hulu also has some episodes for older shows. One of the best features of Hulu is that there is no limit on how much time you can watch. Few shows are specifically made and only viewable on Hulu such as Simon Cowell's production, If I Can Dream. |

Grooveshark is a wonderful way to find the music you want and play a constant stream without having to choose the next song. You can create your own playlists, favorites or just play a radio station based on genre. As a listener you can organize your favorite songs or songs that work well for an activity. It is a great place to find new songs and to decide on the songs to buy through iTunes or Amazon. When you have a list of your favorite music you can just set it to play all and all of your favorite songs will play in order or on shuffle, depending on your preference. |

Youtube is an amazing resource. There are hundreds of people who get to show off their talent, who otherwise wouldn't have a chance to show so many people. I have used youtube many times to find a song or artist that was stuck in my head so I could show other people the melody I was attempting to hum. This site also gives access to clips of everyone's favorite television shows and to talents that most people don't think are possible. Another feature of youtube that is extremely useful is that anyone anywhere in the world can see a video you put up. Anyone has access to any piece of video that you give them permission to, which is something not all websites can do. Some of the artists that I have found on Youtube have become few of my favorites. There is so much talent that can be found by just looking through the videos. I recommend finding a sing by your favorite artist or just your favorite song and scanning the recommended videos for a person you don't know singing the song in their own way. This site has so many uses and so many features to explore I don't think I have found all of the nuances. Youtube also has an amazing number of videos so there is always an amusing clip or song that can be just what you are looking for. |
