Wild Cards
AL: Blue Jays vs. Twins vs. Angels
NL: Braves vs. Astros vs. Padres
Predictions: Blue Jays and Braves win the Wild Card. First the Blue Jays and their amazing pitchers. Of course, there are also pitchers with the Twins that can't go unsaid. Having Santana and Lariano in the rotation will stregthen any team's defense. The Blue Jays have, in responce, Halladay and Burnett. For the AL wild card, it's just like the Cold War. When one team has in their ammo, the other responds with similar statistical players. Troy Glaus with the Blue Jays, while Minnisota has Luis Castillo. Torii Hunter in the outfield for the Twins, Frank Thomas as the DH for Toronto. How did I come to the conclusion then that Toronto will top Minnisota? The answer is that the Orioles and the Devil Rays resides with the Blue Jays, leaving the Twins with three teams having a HUGE chance to winning not only the division, but the World Series as well and one team hoping not to become the worst of the worst. In this case, division play is a handicap for the Twins.
The Braves main problem last year was having one of, if not, the worst bullpen in the majors. Their main objective during the offseason was to look for improvements for the bullpen and rotation. With Mike Hampton coming back from Tommy John surgery, Chuck James having one of the best rookie seasons anyone can have, Joh Smoltz still proving to be one of the best, and Bob Wickman a primary in relief pitching, the rotation and the bullpen have a stronghold in stability. Their main competitors with the pitching for the Wild Card are the Padres with Trevor Hoffman, Greg Maddux and David Wells on their pitching staff. The Padres do pose a threat, but the offense of the Braves was as strong as it was in the past (even in 2006, their offense wasn't half bad). Atlanta will prevail in the season of 2007.
